Lowes Kobalt tool warranty - Kobalt

I bought a Kobalt tool set from Lowes , the tools were in the back of my truck ( with a bed cover) I went through a heavy rain storm and the tools got wet.
over the weekend I tried to dry them off and spray them with WD 40 and when I opened the box the sockets were covered with rust, not just discoloration but pitting and the chrome was coming off.
I went to Lowes to see about their hassle free warranty and was told they were not covered.
Its funny that the cheap Stanley tools that I had in the same box didn't rust.
that being said I have lost all faith in Kobalt tools and Lowes
